ALA Celebrates Social Work Month!
This March ALA honors Social Work Month. Social Workers are a vital line of service delivery to low-income and formerly unhoused people, many of whom suffer from substance abuse, mental illness, and medical vulnerability. The role of social work plays an important part of community health by supporting high-acuity individuals and investing in their ability to regain stability and a path to independence.
Affordable Living for the Aging has over 46 years of experience supporting people in Los Angeles County with access to affordable housing and intensive case management. Our Permanent Supportive Housing Program relies on our skilled Case Managers Nancy Quevedo, Billy Stone, and JoEllen Griffin, whose services help chronically homeless seniors retain stable housing. Through collaboration with independent and government organizations, ALA Case Managers link PSH residents to benefits, including Medi-Cal and Medicare, in-home care, financial benefits, utility assistance, prescription and grocery deliveries, counseling, medical equipment, transportation, CalFresh, and food bank meal deliveries.
ALA’s Enhanced Care Management team members Arelly Otero, Hasmineh Sinani, Rene Coleman, Emily Karapetian and Zoe Sidiropoulos assess the diverse needs of our ECM Members in drafting care plans in cooperation with health providers and support systems. ALA’s ECM Care Managers bring a diverse skillset to their work, and since 2022 we have grown our program to provide healthcare support for over 100 high-acuity adults facing complex challenges. ALA continues to deepen our reach in underserved areas of LA through the skill and dedication of our team.
This March, thank a Social Worker!
